One hundred years after the first retail gas station opened -a Gulf station in Pittsburgh- gas stations are slowly receding from the American commercial landscape. In fact, three or four gas stations close up shop every day. This image gives a preview of my new 2014 book FUEL: The abandoned Big Chief Gas Station, north of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The book is a collection of landscape photographs I shot of old gas station locations throughout the south and the midwest of the USA.
